In an age of incomparable technological influence, we find ourselves unwittingly engaged in a physiological battle between man and machine. The average Australian spends a staggering 5.5 hours (33% of our waking hours) engaged with these devices. This equates to 17 years of our life. Studies show that longer screen time (more than two hours a day) is associated with lower levels of life satisfaction and optimism, and higher levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms, whilst time immersed in the natural world is associated with higher levels of life satisfaction and optimism, and lower levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms. We put two Gen Z phone-addicts to the test to mark the difference in mental states between screen dominated time, and time spent in nature. Part 1/2.
